How it works

Orlistat (the active substance in Xenical) blocks one-third of the fat in the food you eat from being digested. Orlistat works by blocking the absorption of some vitamins A, D and E. The fat in food is excreted in urine. Orlistat stops this process and therefore your body can absorb the excess fat - reducing the absorption of the fat you are eating. You may have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease if you use orlistat for longer than recommended by your doctor. You must complete a medical questionnaire before using orlistat again.

Orlistat is a lipase inhibitor. Lipases are gut enzymes that break down fat from food, enabling the gut to transport fat into the body to be burnt for energy or stored in our fat cells for later use.

Orlistat blocks lipases, preventing them from breaking down fat in the body. This leads to fewer calories being absorbed, reducing the risk of side effects like drowsiness, weight loss, and even dilation of the veins around the stomach. Orlistat is only intended to be used once a day, and requires a prescription.

Orlistat is a prescription-only medication, meaning you may need to take it a number of times a day to be effective. It is important to have a check-up with your doctor to determine if Orlistat is right for you. If you do not have a doctor, a prescription, or a doctor check-up, you will need to buy Orlistat online in the UK.

Orlistat should only be taken on an empty stomach, with a glass of water, with or without food. It is typically taken twice daily, with or without food, in a dose and duration that is medically appropriate.

Orlistat can be taken with or without food, but the exact timing should be known on the day of the drug. Your doctor will determine when the drug will start to work, and when it will stop working. She/she may need to adjust your daily dosing plan if Orlistat is not working right away.

Orlistat should not be used if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Abstract

Objective:This study aimed to examine the effect of a single oral dose of Orlistat on the anti-obesity pharmacokinetics and weight-related adverse events in a rat model. Methods: The study was performed in a rat model of obesity. Body weight (BMI) was determined using a transverse abdomen ultrasonography in healthy and obese rats. Serum lipids were detected using immunoassays (CAM) and immunofluorescence staining. Effects of Orlistat and Orlistat + L-liraglutide on the body weight were evaluated in a rat model of obesity. Results: Orlistat (1.5-g/kg) administered to the weight-controlled groups led to significant weight loss (p<0.05), but when L-liraglutide (2.5-g/kg) was administered to the weight-controlled groups, significant weight loss was observed (p<0.05) and serum lipids were normalized by the increase of Orlistat (p<0.05). There was no significant effect of Orlistat on weight-related side effects (p<0.05). Conclusion: Orlistat led to weight loss in overweight, obese and healthy rats. L-liraglutide reduced body weight by weight-related side effects. L-liraglutide reduced body weight in overweight, obese and healthy rats. Conclusion In this study, Orlistat (1.5-g/kg) administered to overweight and obese rats led to significant weight loss (p<0.05), but when L-liraglutide (2.5-g/kg) was administered to the weight-controlled groups, significant weight loss was observed (p<0.05). Conclusion In this study, Orlistat led to weight loss in overweight, obese and healthy rats.
